Nacer y crecer en dos islas maravillosas, Cuba y La Palma, ambas separadas y unidas a la vez por el mismo mar, para luego emigrar hacia lo desconocido. Este es el punto de partida para emprender un inspirador “viaje trasatlántico”. En él se recogen numerosas ideas e influencias que dan lugar a once conversaciones únicas entre el violín y el piano. Acompañadas por la improvisación y nuestro afán por encontrar nuevos paisajes sonoros, pretendemos reflejar un momento especial de búsqueda hacia una voz e identidad propia. Así mismo, expresar la melancolía de vivir distanciados de nuestras raíces y el deseo de contribuir a realzar el vínculo cultural existente entre nuestros dos pueblos.

TRAYECTORIA

​

El violinista canario Pablo Rodríguez y el pianista cubano Humberto Ríos pertenecen a una joven y virtuosa generación de músicos de jazz que afrontan la creación musical impulsados por influencias de distintas músicas del mundo, así como por un constante deseo de ampliar las posibilidades sonoras del tradicional e histórico formato de piano y violín. A lo largo de su trayectoria artística han actuado, tanto individualmente como juntos, en las salas y festivales más reconocidos de Europa y a su vez, han colaborado a nivel individual con músicos de prestigio internacional como Roy Hargrove, Carles Benavent, Trio Da Kali, Jorge Pardo, Kike Perdomo, Jose Manuel León y Tim Kliphuis entre otros. Pablo & Humberto comienzan su andadura artística en 2016 cuando ambos coinciden en el conservatorio Codarts Rotterdam. Mientras realizan sus estudios de música clásica y jazz surge una gran conexión musical y fascinación por explorar nuevos sonidos y texturas musicales desde el ángular de la improvisación. En este periodo comienza un intenso proceso de experimentación y empiezan a colaborar activamente en varios proyectos de la escena musical holandesa. TRAYECTORIA El diario alemán Helmstedter Nachrichten calificó el dúo como “un verdadero espectáculo emocional” en el que “la formación clásica de los dos músicos les permitió moverse casi lúdicamente en un amplio espectro de música clásica, folclore, jazz y funk y brillar con improvisaciones espontáneas. Por ejemplo, Humberto Ríos, que este año recibió el premio Leiden Jazz Award, no sólo tocó las teclas sino también las cuerdas del piano, mientras que Pablo Rodríguez transformó su violín en una mandolina o un set de percusión”. En diciembre de 2018, el dúo actúa en la prestigiosa sala de conciertos Bimhuis (Ámsterdam) como finalista del concurso holandés Keep an Eye "The Records". Al año siguiente “Conversaciones” finalmente se materializa en un álbum tanto físico como digital como resultado de una exitosa campaña de crowdfunding en el que Pablo y Humberto obtienen el apoyo de más de un centenar de mecenas. La grabación tuvo lugar en el estudio alemán Fattoria Musica, Osnabrück. En 2019, Pablo Rodríguez es recibe el premio como “Mejor Solista” de la segunda edición de los Premios Canarias Jazz Showroom. Recientemente han sido seleccionados como artistas de showcase en el JAZZ I AM (Barcelona, 2020), LPA MARKET (Gran Canaria, 2021) y MAPAS (Tenerife, 2021). También destacan su participación en el VIII Festival de Música Clásica de Panticosa "Tocando el Cielo" y en el 60º Festival Jazz à Juan (Francia).

Born and raised on two wonderful islands, Cuba and La Palma, both separated and united by the same sea, only to migrate towards the unknown. This is the starting point of an inspiring transatlantic journey – a journey where numerous ideas and influences have led to eleven unique conversations between the violin and the piano. Accompanied by improvisation and our eagerness to find new soundscapes, we intend to reflect special moments of searching for a voice and identity of our own. Likewise, we aim to express the melancholy of living distanced from our roots and to contribute to reinforcing the cultural link between our two countries.

STORY

​

Canarian violinist Pablo Rodríguez and Cuban pianist Humberto Ríos belong to a new young generation of jazz musicians whose music creation is influenced by numerous kinds of world music. They are constantly striving to expand their sonic possibilities of the historical piano and violin set-up. Through their artistic journey they have performed both solo and together in the most prestigious European concert halls and have collaborated with renowned musicians of international prestige such as Roy Hargrove, Carles Benavent, Trio Da Kali, Jorge Pardo, Kike Perdomo, Jose Manuel León, Tim Kliphuis and Gordan Nikolić. Pablo & Humberto began their artistic journey as a duo in 2016 when they met at the Codarts Rotterdam conservatory where they were studying classical and jazz music. They quickly discovered a great musical connection and a shared fascination for exploring new sounds and non-traditional ways of performing their own instruments. During this period they also began to actively collaborate with others on various projects in the Dutch music scene. STORY In December 2017, they began the production of ‘Conversaciones’, a set of compositions that explore the fusion of jazz and folk from their respective origins with influences from impressionistic classical music, aiming to express an emotional bond between two islanders who live far away from their roots. In mid-2018, they had the pleasure of presenting this repertoire on their first international tour, which took them to Holland, Germany, Zaragoza, Valencia and the Canary Islands, receiving excellent reviews from the public and the press. The German newspaper Helmstedter Nachrichten described the concert as 'a real emotional spectacle’, saying “the classical training of the two musicians allowed them to move playfully through a wide spectrum of classical music, folklore, jazz and funk, and to shine with spontaneous improvisations. For example, Humberto Ríos, who this year received the Leiden Jazz Award, played not only the keys but also the piano strings, while Pablo Rodríguez transformed his violin into a mandolin or a cajón.” In December 2018, the duo performed at the prestigious Bimhuis concert hall (Amsterdam) as finalists of the Dutch competition ‘Keep an Eye The Records’. The following year, as a result of their successful crowdfunding campaign, they released their first album ‘Conversations’ and gained the support of more than a hundred patrons. The recording took place in the German studio Fattoria Musica, Osnabrück. In 2019, Pablo Rodríguez was awarded Best Soloist at the second Canarias Jazz Showroom Awards. Recently they have been picked as showcase artists in JAZZ I AM (Barcelona, 2020), LPA MARKET (Gran Canaria, 2021) & MAPAS (Tenerife, 2021). They had also performed at the VIII Festival de Musica Clásica de Panticosa “Tocando el Cielo” and 60th Jazz à Juan Festival (France).
